As a mother of 2 girls under 4, you might be in the same boat as me, and that would be asking yourself “What is Roblox?”. Well… Roblox is an online game platform where users can both program games and play games created by other users. It currently has over 215 million active users monthly and over half of all children under the age of 16 use it, so the question remains “Is Roblox safe for children?”
Roblox does have 2,300 people and an artificial intelligence system which review content; however, this does not eliminate the possibility of children accessing inappropriate content.
Games with inappropriate content, such as: nudity, crude language, and sex stimulations are called “condo games”. While doing my due diligence on the topic, you’ll find through a simple Google search that all you have to do is look. Many pages when searching “condo games” are dedicated to how to find them.
Users are always looking for ways to by-pass the systems in place to control games on websites like Roblox. So, in short the answer is “no”, Roblox is not 100% safe for children.
Remember, parental controls and adult supervision of your child when using online platforms is best. Also, please consider reading: The Dangers of Screen Time in Children.
We are arguably the most important people in our children’s lives. Our job is to raise happy and healthy children, and part of doing so is to protect them, including online. Therefore, think twice before giving your child free reign on gaming websites (like Roblox) or online.
